EAST WHITTIER, Los Angeles County — An address ending in “Whittier, CA” does not always mean the property belongs to the incorporated City of Whittier. East Whittier is identified by Los Angeles County as an unincorporated community in the Fourth Supervisorial District.

The county’s Municipal and Unincorporated Area Services website provides an official district-specific guide to municipal services. These include roads, land-use decisions, libraries, parks, fire protection and law enforcement. Some regional services and utilities may be managed by separate entities.

Why the difference matters
